If a specific page on a website doesn't load for some reason or in case a link is not working, the site visitor will see an error page with some generic message. The page will have nothing in common with the rest of the Internet site, which may make the visitor leave your site. A likely solution in cases like this is a function offered by some web hosting companies - the ability to set up your own customized error pages that shall have the same style and design as your site and which may contain any text or images which you want dependent upon the specific error. There are four common errors which could take place and they involve these particular so-called HTTP status codes - 400, when your world-wide web browser sends a bad request to the server and it can't be processed; 401, in case you are supposed to log in to see some webpage, but you have not done so yet; 403, if you don't have a permission to view a specific page; and 404, in case a link which you've clicked leads to a file that does not exist. In any of these cases, visitors shall be able to see your customized content as opposed to a generic error page.

Custom Error Pages in Website Hosting

The custom error pages feature is provided with every single website hosting plan that we offer and you will be able to swap all generic pages with your own with no more than just a few mouse clicks inside your Hepsia hosting CP. You shall have to create the actual files and to upload them to your account, then to set them for a given domain or subdomain through the Hosted Domains section of the Hepsia Control Panel. You can easily do this for every Internet site hosted in the account individually, so that every group of customized pages shall have the same layout as the Internet site it's part of. If needed, you may always return back to a default page from our system or to a default Apache server page. An alternate way to set customized error pages is to create an .htaccess file inside the domain/subdomain root folder and to add a few lines in it. If you haven't done this before, you may simply copy the necessary program code from our Help article on this subject.

Custom Error Pages in Semi-dedicated Servers

All of our semi-dedicated servers support customized error pages, so you shall be able to employ this feature for any domain or subdomain hosted inside your account. All it will take to do this is to visit the Hosted Domains section of the Hepsia Control Panel, to click the Edit button related to the given domain/subdomain and to input the link to the custom-made file. You are able to do this independently for each error type. You will be able to switch back to a generic error page anytime if needed and the change will take effect right away. A different way to achieve the same exact result is to set an .htaccess file inside the domain or subdomain folder of the website that you would like to edit and to enter a few lines of code within it. If you would like to try this method, you can copy and paste the necessary code from our Knowledge Base article on custom error pages, therefore you'll not need any coding skills or prior experience.
